SSC CGL Notification 2026 Out for 12256 Vacancies- Click to Check
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2026 Notification. This year, there are approximately 12,256 vacancies for Group 'B' and Group 'C' posts in the Government of India.
The SSC has introduced major changes to the exam pattern this year. The most important change is the introduction of strict sectional timers for both Tier-1 and Tier-2 exams. You can no longer manage your own time across different subjects.
This guide will explain the new rules in simple terms. We will cover the exam dates, the new pattern, and the exact strategy you need to follow to clear the exam in the next 60 days.
1. Important Exam Dates
Do not wait for the last date to apply. The SSC website servers often crash in the final days. Apply as early as possible.
2. The New Exam Pattern (Major Changes)
The old method of managing your time is completely dead. The SSC now controls your clock. You must understand how the new sectional timers work.
Tier-1 Exam Pattern (Qualifying)
In the past, you had 60 minutes for the whole paper. You could spend 30 minutes on Math and 5 minutes on GK. You cannot do this anymore. The 60 minutes are now divided into four strict 15-minute blocks.
Note: There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.
3. Tier-2 Exam Pattern (Mains)
Tier-2 is what decides your final job selection. Just like Tier-1, Tier-2 now has strict timers and sectional cutoffs. This means you must pass every subject individually to get the job.

4. How the New Timers Change Everything
Because of the new 15-minute sectional timers, your old study habits will no longer work. Here is exactly what has changed:
- You cannot save time: If you finish the GK section in 5 minutes, you cannot use the remaining 10 minutes for Math. You just have to wait until the 15 minutes are over.
- You cannot skip and return: Before, you could skip a hard Math question and come back to it at the end of the exam. Now, once the 15-minute Math timer ends, that section locks permanently. You cannot go back.
- Fast Math is required: You have exactly 15 minutes to solve 25 Math questions. That gives you only 36 seconds per question.
- Mains GK Cutoff: In Tier-2, you must clear the minimum cutoff for GK. You can no longer skip studying GK and hope your Math score will save you. If you fail GK, you fail the whole exam.
5. Your New 60-Day Strategy
Do not panic about the changes. The exam is the same for everyone. Students who adapt to the new timers fastest will win. Follow these 3 simple steps:
Step 1: The "0-to-5 Second" Rule
Because you only have 15 minutes per section, you cannot waste time thinking. When you look at a question, give yourself 5 seconds. If you know exactly how to solve it, do it. If you are confused, skip it immediately. Solve the easiest 15 questions first. Only attempt hard questions if you have extra minutes left.
Step 2: Take Only Sectional Mocks
Stop taking old 60-minute mock tests. You must train your brain to work inside 15-minute boxes. Take online tests that have the new strict sectional timers. This will help you stop panicking when the clock runs out.
Step 3: Focus on High-Value GK
To pass the Tier-2 GK sectional cutoff, you do not need to read thick history books. You only need about 30% marks to pass. Focus purely on Current Affairs (last 6 months), Important Articles of the Constitution, and Basic Science.
6. Application Rules
The SSC has changed how you fill out the application form. If you make a mistake here, you will not be allowed to take the exam.
- New OTR is Mandatory: The old SSC website is gone. You must go to the new website (ssc.gov.in) and create a brand new One-Time Registration (OTR).
- Live Photograph Rule: You cannot upload an old studio photo. The website will turn on your computer or phone camera and take a live photo of you. Sit in front of a plain wall.Make sure there is good light on your face.Do not wear glasses, masks, or caps. If you wear glasses in the photo, your form will be rejected.

7. Vacancies, Age Limits & Salary Levels
Here is a simple breakdown of the jobs available, the age limits, and the pay scales.
Note: The cutoff date for checking your age and college degree is 01.08.2026. Standard age relaxations (like 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC) apply.
8. Physical & Medical Tests
Before you choose your favorite posts, you must know that some jobs have strict physical tests.
- Excise Inspector & Preventive Officer: Men must be at least 157.5 cm tall. Women must be at least 152 cm tall. You will also have to pass a walking and cycling test.
- CBI Sub-Inspector: Men must be 165 cm tall. Women must be 150 cm tall. You must also have excellent eyesight.
Crucial Warning: If you select these posts as your first choice, and you pass the written exam but fail the physical test, you will be rejected completely. You will not be given a different job. Choose your posts carefully!
Final Thoughts
The SSC CGL 2026 exam brings big changes, but it also brings a massive 12,256 vacancies. The new sectional timers mean that speed and decision-making are now just as important as your math skills. Focus on taking 15-minute mock tests, fill out your live photo application carefully, and stick to a strict daily study routine.
